Coronation Street, the long-running ITV soap opera, has been filmed in Manchester since 1960. In this 50th anniversary year, it was appropriate then that the cast were chosen to lead the Manchester Pride 2010 parade, which celebrates the “LGBT” (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community.

One of around 100 floats, the Coronation Street float was brightly decorated with scenes from the Rovers Return pub – or rather what it might look like if barman Sean Tully (played by Anthony Cotton) had his way!

All eyes, however, were on my favourites – Sophie Webster (played by Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (the ever-radiant Sacha Parkinson), whose recent on-screen romance would have made Ena Sharples’ hair-net curl! Also included above – and almost unrecognisable from her on-screen persona – is Debbie Rush, who plays Anna Windass.
