St Leonards Church: Evening

This photo of St Leonard’s Parish Church in Middleton, Greater Manchester, was taken in the warm light of evening – resulting in rich, almost surreal colours. The photo was taken from the adjoining park, in which stands Middleton Library and the Middleton band-stand.
The wooden steeple dates from 1667 and is one of only three wooden steeples that survive in the UK. St Leonard’s church itself though is much older, dating from around 1096. As is traditional for Norman times, the church stands high on a hill overlooking the town.
