71000 Duke of Gloucester – Nuttall Park

The golden age of steam is recreated here as locomotive 71000 “Duke Of Gloucester” presses on through Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom on the 22nd January 2011 as part of the East Lancashire Railway’s Winter Steam Weekend.

The Duke Of Gloucester was built by British Railways in 1954 and withdrawn from service a mere 8 years later in 1962. Rescued from the scrapyard in a sorry state in 1975, the locomotive was restored to its former glory and is now based at the East  Lancashire Railway and is owned and managed by the 71000 Steam Locomotive Trust Limited.

More information about the history of the 71000 “Duke Of Gloucester” can be found here (external link).
