The Photos Of Roy Cunningham

I believe this to be a Deer Fly (of the genus Chrysops), a type of horse fly that can deliver a painful bite in order to feed on the blood of the host. Had I known that, I probably wouldn’t have let it stay on my finger while I took this shot!
This was taken in the Cors Erddreiniog nature reserve, near to Capel Coch, on a day-trip to Anglesey. It was a great opportunity to test out the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens purchased just the day before.
Other creatures spotted on the day included hundreds of tiny frogs, dragonflies, damselflies, newts – and an adder! More to follow soon.
