Giant Panda Eating Bamboo

Giant Panda Eating Bamboo

I don’t do enough black-and-white photography so it seemed logical when processing this shot of a Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) to convert it to monochrome.

The panda is native to the central & south regions of western China and feeds almost exclusively on bamboo. Because of the low nutritional value of bamboo, the panda spends most of its waking life eating and conserving energy, giving them an almost sloth-like reputation. An adult panda can eat 10-15kg of bamboo each day. Surprisingly though, the panda has the digestive system of a carnivore and will occasionally eat meat (birds, rodents and carrion).
