Great Cormorant Chick in Nest

A long lens was needed to get a decent shot of this baby Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) in its nest in the Tiergarten (“animal garden”, or zoo) in Vienna, Austria. The poor thing looks almost bald with the sparse covering of down on its back!
This image is actually a crop of a much larger scene that includes both parents standing either side of the nest, keeping a diligent watch.
