Old Moor: Great Spotted Woodpecker On Suet Feeder

It’s been a week or two since the last update – short days and poor weather mean fewer photo opportunities.

Nevertheless, I managed to get over to Old Moor, an RSPB reserve in the Dearne Valley today, where I was pleasantly surprised to see this great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) on one of the suet feeders near the visitor centre. This is the closest I’ve been to one of these birds – it’s just a pity the light wasn’t better / more plentiful!
